The digestive tract is an aqueous environment and fats and oils are lipophilic substances that must be emulsified before being digested. The active ingredients in Elan®Digest improve the emulsification process of fats and micelle formation to support the young animal as they are not able to produce enough bile acids for efficient emulsification to promote optimal digestion and growth. Because bile acid production is not optimal yet in young animals, Elan®Digest can support to optimize fat digestion in the start phase.
Elan®Digest improves the emulsification process of fats and micelle formation.
Elan®Digest emulsifies the fat content with the water content inside the gastrointestinal tract. This optimizes the digestibility of the fats as normally fat will demulsify from water.
The process of fat emulsification is the most important step in achieving the maximum metabolizable energy (ME) value from the added fat source. However, secretion of bile and lipase in young animals is always insufficient to get an optimum emulsification. This often results in depressed ME-value of the fat added to the diet. To assure that these added fats are absorbed efficiently by the animal’s digestive system, it is advised to use emulsifiers.
Elan®Digest can be used on top of the current diets to optimize fat utilization and therewith lowers the risk on bacterial growth. Next to the on top usage, Elan®Digest can also be used with an matrix to reduce feed costs by lowering energy levels in the feed.
